What’s Wrong With the Food We Eat

Mark Bittman seems to come up a lot lately on this blog, largely due to my recent acquisition of How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, quickly becoming my favorite cookbook of all time! But this post isn’t about cooking; however, it is about Food.

Mark Bittman gave a TED talk last year that’s well worth watching (you can view it up top). It’s a Pollan-esque polemic on the state of the food industry, and yeah, most of us have heard this before already. However, Bittman’s marked wit and unabashed use of the word “fart” makes the argument well worth another listen.

In this fiery and funny talk, New York Times food writer Mark Bittman weighs in on what’s wrong with the way we eat now (too much meat, too few plants; too much fast food, too little home cooking), and why it’s putting the entire planet at risk.

Saw this video before and LOVED it! What struck me was when I found at the time that Mark himself ate meat ;)

Anyhow he has amazing messages and is a prominent figure that can open up a lot of people to the amazing world of vegetarianism!

I don’t think the whole point was to become a vegetarian, but that meat should be relegated to a side dish instead of the main dish at the dinner table.

Usually I get away with that idea for my meal, but my husband usually just eat the other half of the meat that I did not eat. So indirectly, but lowering my meat consumption, I am increasing my husband’s meat consumption.
