It’s obvious, right?  Running is cheap, it’s easy (as far as equipment goes), it’s great cardio, and undeniably, it keeps the ol’ buddha belly at bay.

But great news: there are loads of other great things about running that should keep you heading to the track for more.  Ririan Project’s 10 Benefits of Running includes a few lesser known benefits and a plsu some tips to help you maximise those benefits.

For example, running not only strengthens the heart, it also strengthens bones:

Our bones are made to accommodate the demands placed upon them. By sitting in front of the monitor all day many of us allow our bones to grow weaker, but by running regularly our skeleton gets the demand it needs to stay healthy. In addition to keeping our insides from aging quickly, regular, high-intensity exercise, like running, has also been proven to promote the human growth hormone, which celebrities have taken injections of for years to keep them looking young.

Oh yeah, we should also add that running is fun.  Don’t believe me?  Try running a 5k race with a friend. It’s a high-energy good time.
