What's on your grocery list?

Food: one of the funnest challenges of camping

I love lists... especially grocery lists... even if they're not my own, like this list of grocery essentials by Veggie Chic.

It's fascinating what other people include in their routine diet. People often ask me what I eat as a vegetarian. Well, here you go...

PRODUCE (this largely depends on the season)
  • Apples

  • Grapefruit

  • Tomatoes

  • Carrots

  • Cabbage

  • Lemons

  • Parsley

  • Cilantro

  • Onions

  • Garlic

  • Seasonal veggies: Kale, chart, spinach, cauliflower, avocado, salad leaves

GRAINS
  • Brown Rice

  • Basmati Rice

  • Quinoa

  • Oats

  • Polenta

  • Bread

  • Dry pasta

  • Strong bread flour (wheat and whole wheat)

DAIRY AND SUBSTITUTES
  • Soy milk

  • Milk
  • - the only non-vegan item; it's hard to drink black tea without it!

PROTEINS
  • Beans - canned and dry. Especially black beans, chickpeas, puy lentils, and red lentils

  • Tofu

  • TVP - Textured vegetable protein

  • Walnuts

EXTRAS
  • Olive oil

  • Balsamic Vinegar

  • Herbs and spices - loads of indian spices here. The must-haves are cumin and cinnamon

  • Veggetable broth

  • Soy sauce

  • Flax seeds

  • Canned tomatoes

  • Tea - black

  • Dijon Mustard

  • Maple syrup

  • Honey

  • Marmite

  • Corn

  • Fruit - blueberries, banana

Quinoa is one of those foods I keep meaning to eat more often, but then I forget all about its existence for months at a time. Maybe I should add it to my grocery list now...

Thanks for playing along! :)

Quinoa's great. Cooks fast. High protein. Tastes good. Especially with a little soy sauce or Braggs!
