I’m not sure what’s worse: 100-calorie packs or Twinkies themselves. Not to worry – now you can have both at the same time!

Hostess Twinkies are becoming the latest product remade and repackaged into 100-calorie snack packs, a product some analysts say could do well given that more people are packing their own lunches in the slumping economy.

The maker of the golden yellow, creme-filled cake is launching “Twinkie Bites” nationwide in stores on Monday.

Worried that the 100-calorie Twinkie won’t hold a creamy candle to the original? David Leavitt, vice president of snack marketing at Hostess reassures us:

It’s not some impostor like some portion control products would be. From that standpoint it eats like a Twinkie, it smells like a Twinkie, it tastes like a Twinkie.

  • Ha! This is too funny – making it sound like the almighty Twinkie is “healthy” since it’s “only” 100 calories…and brings up another point – just because something is 100 calories — that doesn’t mean they are any good for us – ok, I’m off to eat a banana — that sounds better any way you look at it!

  • Okay that is just like a good joke. But what is sad is that many people will seriously fall for it and actually think that now their twinkie is “healthy”.
