How do I measure my waist?

0947DC21-BF03-455C-B496-561AA9262959.jpg Following up from yesterday's post about the link between waist size and risk of premature death, the Australian Better Health Initiative is running a health campaign focussed on measuring your waistline.

The campaign's Measure Up website is full of great information about why and how you should measure your waist. They also identify important cut-off points that are associated with higher risk of disease:

Increased risk:
Men: more than 94 centimetres
Women: more than 80 centimetres

Greatly increased risk:
Men: more than 102 centimetres
Women: more than 88 centimetres

Neat. They even have a tape measure (one for men and one for women) you can download that identifies these cut-off points.
